Top of the London League

With Serie A taking an extra week or so off, it's time for me to concentrate on things closer to home - in my hometown of London - Who will be the top club in London this season?

Despite winning the Champions League last season Chelsea had a domestic campaign which they would rather forget. They finished outside of the top 4 for the first time since 2003 and saw two London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham, placed ahead of them.

Chelsea reinvested heavily this summer and have not stopped yet, they are intent on not letting that happening again but face very strong competition from the two North London clubs.

Tottenham beat Chelsea in the race for a top spot in the league only to have the merit of the finishing place taken away from them on a technicality.

Like Chelsea, Tottenham have been busy in the transfer market. They are in the process of begrudgingly selling their star-player, Luka Modric, to Real Madrid but there are many reasons for Spurs fans not to be so glum. They brought in ex-Chelsea cast-away Andre Villas-Boas and hoping he is going to implement long-term foundations for the better of club.

Along with the new manager they managed to sign Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen and are still looking for a few more players in the transfer market. It would be an optimistic punt to back Tottenham with Bet365 but they will fully believe that the challenge ahead is fully achievable.

Arsenal are the club that are yet to fall out of a top four position but that does not mean that they are immune to such occurrences. The Gunners finished the highest out of the three last season thanks to countless standout performances from club captain Robin van Persie but he is poised to leave this summer. The loss of such a talent will be evident but they have tried to aid the loss by bringing in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud.

All of the three main contenders have already spent a lot of money and are showing no signs of stopping – they are in a three-way battle to be kings of London and finish higher than each other. Chelsea are the bookermakers favorite but if they have another shaky season like last they would have a lot of work on their hands to potentially catch their rivals. Competition is now fiercer and tighter than ever and all three clubs will need to be on their best all season to come out on top.
