Inter Milan suffered a major blow to their title race after the 3-3 draw with Hellas Verona.
Following the match, manager Roberto Mancini ruled out the possibility of winning the title this season. This was due to Juventus stretching their winning run even further with a 2-0 win against Frosinone. Inter were expected to get a consecutive win – following their narrow win over Chievo – a week ago. As the league’s bottom club,Hellas Verona were seen as easy opposition. However, they put up a stern fight and were able to come away with a thrilling draw.
Inter’s form has nosedived in recent weeks. Since the loss against Napoli back at the start of December, the club has been struggling to assert any authority. The lack of confidence has been telling on the players in recent weeks. Opposition have been able to take further advantage of this fact. It is not surprising to know that Inter have managed just four league wins since that loss against Napoli. Mancini has been defiant about staying in contention for the league title but the club have fallen too far behind Juventus even for Mancini to stay positive. The club are up against Fiorentina in the next league match but even a win is unlikely to improve their league position.
“We’re always there in the table, we’re staying positive and looking forward. There’s an important game on Sunday, and there are many points at stake between now and the end of the season. We have a lot of points, we’re training well so the result will come.Juventus and Napoli for the Scudetto? They’ve pulled away and the gap is now a lot of points, but while they went through difficult periods at the start of the season and Inter were flying, now it’s happening to us,” said Mancini.
