Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that his team are playing catch-up the Italian Serie A title race and it will be difficult for the club to retain the title once again.
Juventus have won the league title for the last couple of seasons, but there is a real danger of the run coming to an end. The team made a disastrous start to the league campaign. Even though the form has recovered in recent weeks with just one loss in the last four, Juventus have managed only five victories out of the 12 games they have played. As a result, they are already almost 10 points behind table leaders Fiorentina.
Aside from having to deal with Fiorentina, Juventus also have the threat from Inter Milan and Roma for the title. Juventus are almost certain to strengthen in the January transfer window not just to revive the domestic hopes, but also to challenge for the Champions League once again. After opening their European campaign with two victories, things were looking on the up for Allegri and his team. However, they have failed to win the last two games and have slipped behind Manchester City. The team now faces a fight to qualify for the last 16.
"Every game is important because we're playing catch up. We need to get back to winning ways on the road.Empoli are in good form and play a decent brand of football. We need to approach the game in the right manner.Chiellini and Hernanes' red cards came from different situations. We need to pick up less yellow cards for dissent. Morata's socks? I've bought him three pairs, so we've solved that particular issue," said Allegri about the upcoming game against Empoli. Juventus have not won away from home since September and this has to change quickly.
